Dignity, respect and zero tolerance
IDER is committed to preventing sexual exploitation and abuse and to treating everyone involved in its work with dignity and respect. Our PSEA policy sets out a zero-tolerance approach, standards of conduct and protection against retaliation. Its scope includes employees, consultants, volunteers, interns, contractors and people representing IDER.
Recruitment, consent and training
The systematic vetting procedure covers application review, shortlisting, interviews, references and candidate self-declarations. Verification is subject to explicit candidate consent, with confidential handling of records. The PSEA policy requires prevention training covering conduct, consent, power dynamics and survivors’ rights and needs.
Reporting and protection against retaliation
The reporting procedure sets standards for confidential and accessible reporting, safety, accountability and protection of survivors, witnesses and whistleblowers. Study teams should explain the designated reporting arrangements before engagement begins. General website enquiry forms are for administrative contact; use the agreed safeguarding channel for sensitive reports.
Impartial investigation and support
The investigation procedure provides for preliminary and risk assessment, impartial investigation where warranted, restricted access to evidence and preservation of records. The referral procedure centres support on survivors’ needs and informed choices, including consent to each proposed service and the right to accept or decline support.
The documents behind this framework
This summary draws on IDER’s PSEA policy, systematic vetting procedure, training document, reporting mechanism, referral procedure and investigation procedure. These documents establish policy requirements. Training attendance, current responsible-person appointments and service-provider arrangements are confirmed separately for operational delivery.
