Information before participation
Before collection begins, participants should receive an accessible explanation of the study purpose, responsible research team, activities, expected time, risks, potential benefits, confidentiality, information use and complaint contacts. Any recording, location collection, recontact or future data use should be explained separately.
A voluntary choice
Participation must be voluntary. You should be able to ask questions, decline a question or stop an interview without pressure. The study information should explain how and when withdrawal is possible and any limits after data has been irreversibly anonymised or combined.
Consent and additional safeguards
The study team must use a consent method appropriate to the participant and the research context. Work involving children or people who may need additional support requires appropriate permission, assent where relevant, and a specific safeguarding and ethics assessment.
How to verify a study
Ask the researcher for the study title, their identification and the project contact. You may contact info@iderafrica.com to verify that an approach is associated with IDER. A general website enquiry checkbox is not consent to participate in research.
