Executive takeaway
The next dashboard review should begin with the decisions management expects to make this week. Which overdue invoices need intervention? Which stock gaps threaten committed orders? Which products require a margin review? For Ghanaian firms, current economic releases can provide context, but the operating answer depends on company records and the authority to act on them.
IDER recommends a small decision register alongside the dashboard: measure, definition, owner, review timing, trigger and response. This changes the design brief from displaying everything available to making a defined set of decisions supportable. The objective is a repeatable management routine, not a claim that a particular dashboard technology has been proven to improve performance.
What the evidence shows
GSS’s current CPI and PPI highlights both refer to August 2026. [S1] [S2] Those reference dates belong on any management view that uses the releases. The date a dashboard refreshes is a separate fact from the period an external indicator describes.
External price indicators and internal operating measures answer different questions. To investigate its own margin, management needs realised prices, product mix and attributable costs. To investigate collections, it needs invoices, receipts, credit notes and due dates. An economic headline alone cannot establish which customer should be contacted or which product requires a price review.
No company dataset was supplied for this issue. Consequently, there is no empirical finding here about reporting accuracy, cash improvement or the effect of using a dashboard. The evidence requirement for implementation is explicit: reconcile the chosen measures to their underlying records, document their limits and examine the decisions they are intended to support.
Why this matters
Define the unit before calculating the metric. An order, shipment, invoice and payment are different events; joining them without care can count the same sale more than once. Agree the treatment of cancellations, partial deliveries, returns and credits. A measure should carry a description that allows another analyst to reproduce it and an owner who can explain a material change.
Separate a stock from a flow. Overdue receivables at a date are a balance, while collections during a week are activity over time. Both can be useful, but comparing them without the period and definition can obscure the question. For cash planning, show expected receipts and payments with their assumptions; for collections work, show the accounts and invoices requiring action.
Give margin a consistent basis. Product revenue should reflect the agreed treatment of discounts and returns, and direct cost should use the chosen accounting basis. A rising sales total can coexist with a less favourable mix. The purpose of a margin review is to locate the relevant pricing, sourcing or operating question, not to assume that revenue growth alone demonstrates better performance.
Make data quality visible where the decision is taken. Show the latest complete period, missing records, reconciliation status and material definition changes. A stale value should not acquire apparent authority because it appears in a polished chart. Where a measure is incomplete, either limit the decision it supports or attach the specific qualification that the decision-maker needs.
Set triggers from obligations and operating capacity. A customer collection trigger can reflect agreed terms and credit policy; a stock trigger can reflect committed demand and replenishment time. Do not invent a universal red-amber-green threshold. Each trigger should identify who investigates, which evidence they inspect, and what authority they have to resolve the issue.
Who is affected differently
A retailer may prioritise availability and product contribution, a professional-services firm project billing and collection, and a manufacturer production completion and inventory. These are design examples, not ranked findings about Ghanaian sectors. Select the measures that connect directly to the firm’s commitments and cash cycle.
An owner-managed firm may begin with a controlled spreadsheet and a short review. A larger business may need automated feeds and separate responsibilities for data preparation and approval. The technology should match the complexity and control requirements. Both need stable definitions, a reliable source record and a route for challenging a number before it drives a material decision.

Evidence boundaries
Research cut-off: 26 September 2026. The cited GSS highlights provide a current reference-period example; they do not supply company-level costs or demand. Their exact publication days were not visible in the retrieved pages. No national inflation figure should be substituted automatically for a firm’s product costs or used as an unexplained price-setting rule.
This is a recommended operating framework, not a tested IDER dashboard or a performance benchmark. No savings, cash-release amount or causal effect is estimated. Before implementation, adapt the measures to the company’s accounting policies, transaction structure and decision rights, and obtain the underlying records needed to verify them.
