Key finding

Ghana’s latest published inflation and output indicators provide current context, while missing trade observations and older survey periods remain explicitly visible.

Read price signals before revising a business plan

GSS reports August 2026 consumer inflation of 5.0% and producer inflation of 4.4%. These are year-on-year rates, not a claim that every input cost rose equally. Build a price bridge from supplier quotations to selling prices: separate imported inputs, local materials, wages, transport and finance. An inflation rate can moderate while the price level remains above its earlier level. A firm should test its own weighted cost basket rather than apply headline inflation to every budget line.

Distinguish output growth from the addressable market

GSS shows 6.0% quarterly GDP growth for Q2 2026. The WDI API reports Ghana’s 2025 nominal GDP at US$114.21 billion. The first measure concerns real growth and the second current-dollar economic size; they must not be treated as a continuous growth series. For a market-entry decision, estimate reachable buyers, purchase frequency and feasible channel coverage. A rising national aggregate does not identify a firm’s obtainable sales.

Keep missing trade observations visible

The updated dashboard covers 2019–2025. WDI has no 2025 trade-to-GDP observation for Ghana or Nigeria in the retrieved vintage. Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa do have 2025 values. Comparisons therefore show coverage explicitly, and the latest available year may differ from the selected comparison year. No empty cell is interpreted as zero. Merchandise export-product archives remain separately dated because national-accounts trade includes services.

Use welfare indicators to design research, not to assign eligibility

The GSS headline summary reports Q3 2025 unemployment of 13.0%, multidimensional poverty of 21.9% and food insecurity of 38.1%. Different definitions and denominators prevent adding these rates or treating them as the same group of people. A programme study should identify the target population, measure overlapping deprivations and test access barriers with recent local evidence. National prevalence alone does not establish eligibility or programme impact.

A practical review before committing capital

For an illustrative firm, prepare three sheets: a dated evidence register, a margin bridge and a cash-flow stress test. Record the source and period of every input. Recalculate gross margin under a supplier-price increase; test slower collections separately from lower sales. Obtain a current lender quotation that includes fees, repayment timing and collateral obligations. Agree a decision threshold before reviewing the scenarios. These are research steps, not forecasts or measured results for an IDER client.

Method and reference period

Official GSS headline observations were checked on 19 September 2026. The WDI API vintage is dated 13 July 2026. Nominal GDP is converted from US dollars to billions only for presentation. Reference periods and missing observations remain unchanged. The GSS summary and WDI API do not provide individual observation release dates; no release date is inferred from the retrieval date.

Limitations

This is a secondary-source decision brief, not a causal study, live feed, bank quotation or investment forecast. Headline observations can be revised. Survey indicators differ in population coverage and definitions; the corresponding detailed release should be checked before operational targeting. HS6 product archives have not been represented as current.
